Extreme sports are called “extreme” for a reason. But this Malaysian father thought that his 2-year-old daughter knows better.
Netizens went crazy after seeing the video clip of Mohd Redha Rozlan carrying his daughter, Mecca Mikaela, while doing a bungee jump. The two went for a heart-stopping 60-meter drop.
It was seen that both of them were wearing harnesses, but only Redha was wearing a protective helmet. Mecca looked so tiny that she might have slipped from his father’s arms. After they jumped, the two swung multiple times over a river filled with huge and pointy rocks.
And as expected, after he posted the video he was immediately under fire from skeptical social media users.
In response, Redha responded saying, “chill guys, Mecca Mikaela was the one who wanted to do the jump with me. There was no forcing.”
He even pointed out that Mecca had so much fun jumping that she wanted to do it again.
“She enjoyed her first jump and requested to do it again, but I was afraid,” he said.
Mohd Shafiq Azmi, whos is the bungee jump operator at the time came to the father’s defense and said, “The equipment is inspected by our staff before someone does the jump, which is from a height of 60 meters (197 feet).”
But most were not assured by these statements. Most netizens think that what Redha has done was both irresponsible and foolish. Someone also criticized the father’s defense that his daughter “enjoyed” it, “so this stupid man actually thinks this very very young child has the ability to make rational decisions” the comment read.
Child rights lawyer, Goh Siu Lin also said that “rope spring jump is an extreme sport and dangerous, and there is a high likehood of the motions in such an activity causing physical injury to her.”
Here are the comments from the netizens:
Whether the 2-year-old Mecca liked it or not, it seems irrational for a parent to hide under a toddler’s consent to do extreme sports.
