1. Kris Aquino
For Kris Aquino, it was a struggle to accept that her first-born has autism. According to her, admitting Josh’s condition and moving on was vital in order to properly attend to his special needs.
Unfortunately, Josh is still sometimes bullied because of his condition. In an Instagram comment just recently, Kris shared how painful it was to see her children being dragged into political issues time and time again.
2. Candy Pangilinan
Candy is a proud mother to 14-year-old Quentin, who also has autism. She narrated her experience in raising a child with special needs in her book, “Mommy Dear: Our Special Love.”
In an interview, Candy revealed that she once blamed herself for her son’s illness. Despite having a hard time raising Quentin alone, she drew strength from God.
“I never questioned God. As a matter of fact, I went to Him agad.”
3. Vickie Rushton
It’s no secret that the Binibining Pilipinas first runner-up has a brother with Down syndrome. As a matter of fact, Vickie and her brother Kian went viral last 2017 after the actress shared their lunch date photo on Facebook.
She said that because of her busy schedule, she rarely takes Kian out on dates. But with his evident wide smile on their picture, it’s safe to say that he doesn’t hold it against Vicky.
4. Andrea Torres
Just like Vicky, Kapuso actress Andrea Torres loves her brother dearly. In an interview, she expressed that she will go to great lengths to protect her brother Kenneth from those who would make fun of his condition.
“Kung ang normal na artista sinasabi [na] huwag niyong gagalawin ‘yung family ko, [how] much more sa akin doon sa kapatid kong special child kasi siyempre he cannot defend himself.”

5. Ruby Rodriguez
Just recently, Eat Bulaga host Ruby Rodriguez shared her delight over her son Don AJ’s moving up ceremony.
“Proud Mom moment!!! Yes Don Aj you did it! Children with learning disability has more obstacles to conquer. The fact that you are moving up my boy, we are so proud of you.”
Ruby also slammed a netizen who called AJ “abnormal.” The comedian said that if the netizen meant that he is a special child, then she’s proud to say “Yes, he is.”
6. Karen Davila
News anchor Karen Davila is also a celebrity parent with a child who has special needs. In fact, the ANC anchor said that it was David — her son — who taught her how to love.
“Sometimes when the intervention is not full, they cannot show your love back. There were very painful times when David was around five, he was not hugging me, not saying I love you, he could not look me in the eye. And nothing is more painful to a mother.”
7. Sofia Andres
Sofia Andres’s brother Bryan has Down syndrome. Despite his condition, Bryan dove into show business just like his older sister. He appeared on ABS-CBN’s “The Story of Us” in 2016.
Sofia shared that she and her family never tried to hide Bryan nor his illness.
8. Ara Mina
For Ara, her younger sister who has Down syndrome, Mina Princess Klenk, is a lucky charm. She narrated that before Mina was born, she had difficulty booking gigs. But when she entered their lives, Ara finally passed an audition with “That’s Entertainment.”
Hats off to these loving celebrities. Let’s hope that more people learn from their experiences and realize that children with special needs aren’t a burden, but a blessing.
