By now, you probably have heard or seen the viral video of a three-year-old girl who was allegedly harmed by her step-mother named Berna Espina. Apparently, the said video sparked extreme bouts of negative criticisms after it surfaced online on August 12.

Recently, Raffy Tulfo was able to talk with the child’s biological mother, Marimar Quilap-Quilap. When asked why she left her daughter under the custody of her estranged husband Melvin De Vera, the complainant explained that her former partner abducted her child two years ago. This was after they had a heated argument.
Afterward, Quilap-Quilap found out that her ex-husband eloped with Berna Espina, and started a new family somewhere in Cavite. According to her, she just recently found out about her daughter’s unfortunate situation after watching the viral video on Facebook.

Meanwhile, in a phone interview with Berna Espina, she dismissed the accusations that she mishandled her stepdaughter. When asked about how the child sustained the unbelievable injuries, she said that the toddler allegedly hit in the kitchen sink. However, Tulfo wasn’t convinced. As for him, Espina’s explanation seems to be unreal, given that the child is too small to reach the sink.
Moreover, the journalist also asked the defendant if she has something to say to Quilap-Quilap. However, Espina refused to ask for an apology for what happened. Because of this, the biological mother became furious.

In the latter part of the program, Tulfo apparently consulted with the PNP to formally file a case against Espina. Likewise, he urged the authorities to speed up the investigation as it important that people with such cruelty will be liable for their wrongdoings.
According to the police, Espina might face legal charges for violating Republic Act 7610, or Anti Child [Maltreatment] Law.
